Why did they make her irish on boardwalk?

Was it simply to appeal to Nucky's Irish heritage? I guess her accent is supposed to be Irish, but I'm always jarred because she's so obviously Scottish. Would it just have been a huge plot hassle to make her Scottish on the show?

I know what you mean. I do think making her Irish appeals to his heritage (there were a fair few gangsters during that period with Irish decent). And it makes more sense in terms of history with Irish immigration during that time. I guess some people consider Irish and Scottish to be similar if they're not from their because they're both Celtic (it's like when they cast Scottish Gerard Butler as an Irishman in 'P.S I Love You' - that bugged me a little). I actually didn't think MacDonald's Irish accent was that good when I first heard it, but it's grown on me. I think I was just too used to hearing her sound Scottish.

You realize there's this thing called "acting" where you play other people, right?

How is she so obviously Scottish? And why does that matter?

Agreed -- I'm not sure why it matters. And I thought she did an excellent job with the accent. If you want to hear some bad accents in movies/TV, there's a lot to choose from.
