Ifans - what a dumbass

Yet another reason not to see this abomination reboot piece of crap.

Stay out of America, douchebag. We don't need ya.

The complaint line forms to the left. Have a cupcake and an aperitif whilst you wait.

He got drunk at Comic Con and gave a pretty explosive speech:

“I wanted to see just how much truth there was to the parody. Come to find out, it’s not a parody at all. If anything, it’s a whitewash. You people disgust me, with your self-important justifications for your stunted development and your elaborate, mask-ridden drag shows. It’s sad wretches like you who have made it well-nigh impossible to earn a living as an actor without either making dick jokes or putting on fetish wear and calling it a ‘superhero costume.’ Poor Bobby [DeNiro] and Al [Pacino] might as well be wearing clown noses every time they get in front of a camera these days, and here I am getting ready to impersonate a character known for dragging out his ‘s’s and wearing a lot of purple.”

It goes to show, even when he's on the piss, he's pretty damn eloquent.

EDIT: He also shoved a female guard over, which isn't cool.

I think Rhys is a fabulous actor, and he's been excellent in films that weren't strong technically (I have issues with Anonymous for many reasons, but his performance was superb). He almost sounds like he's making a joke here, in an acerbic, Welshman sort of way. And yes, he's d+*& eloquent in spite of the demon drink.

I can't believe he's the first actor-bloke who has thought of Pacino/DeNiro and their recent respective filmographies in this way.

Shoving the lady in question was certainly uncool, but otherwise, drunk or not, this is no dumbass. Eloquent is precisely the word. It's time for Hollywood to bite the bullet and at least attempt to show some class. Rhys Ifans is a gifted actor with an amazing range, and in a strange way very appealing, even in his goofiest roles. In that way he reminds me of Matthew Lillard, particularly in the early roles ("Hackers," for example).

BTW, the cupcake and aperitif wouldn't do it. There would have to be a buffet table to accommodate the people who would complain about a post like this one, jedifred. I totally agree about the "abomination reboot piece of crap" bit, but would hate to lose the opportunity to watch him in more of his fine other performances. Who the hell are you to tell anybody to stay out of America? And don't you think "douchebag" is just a wee bit over-the-top?
