Why did Revolver even happen?

I know Ritchie has received a lot of criticism for basically making the same movies over and over, but honestly, I could care less. if it ain't broke, why fix it?
Then we have movies like Revolver? I understand the plot and the characters and everything, but I can't even begin to make sense of that movie in Guy Ritchie's filmography.
Are there any fans of Revolver out there? Or am I alone in this one?

"Revolver" is Richie's best film! He best writing! He explores the greatest deficit of the human mind.. of mankind. And wraps it up in a story that echoes his previous films.

The problem I find, is that most people don't realize what he's talking about in this film... the meaning he's trying to convey. But almost every human suffers from the malady that he's displaying and the vast majority don't even realize it... which is exactly why it is the greatest deficit of the human mind.

Richie explores this deficit -- in his signature way. But in "Revolver" his writing goes much deeper then in anything he's previously done. He's exploring that which all successful people must learn to deal with... the one mental condition that is at the root of success... that must be overcome for any real success to ever manifest itself in your or anyone's life.

It is really his masterpiece. If he ever does anything better, I'd be greatly surprised and immensely pleased.
