Why did Revolver even happen?

I know Ritchie has received a lot of criticism for basically making the same movies over and over, but honestly, I could care less. if it ain't broke, why fix it?
Then we have movies like Revolver? I understand the plot and the characters and everything, but I can't even begin to make sense of that movie in Guy Ritchie's filmography.
Are there any fans of Revolver out there? Or am I alone in this one?

I just didn 't like Revolver, period. I thought it was very very predictable (unlike all of Ritchies other movies). The story was sort of stupid and I didn't like any of the characters (unlike most of Ritchie's other movies).

Revolver was extremely disappointing.

I loved revolver personally. It's quite deep and needs rewatching a few times, then it starts making more and more sense.
But hey - Im a huge Ritchie's fan, love his work so maybe im biased...

I'm a huge Ritchie fan too
I defend his stuff to the death (which comes up a lot in film school, believe me) but there are some that I can't make sense of.
I understand all the stuff that happens in revolver, but it wasn't particularly engaging for me.
Thanks for taking the time to respond though!

I agree, it's a strange twist in what you'd expect from Guy Ritchie, but I also think that it needed to be done, he need to explore the way he did....and ultimately, to his critics, and his fans, he may have NEEDED this "Failure" (personally, I enjoyed the film, but not as much as Lock-Stock, Snatch, or Rocknrolla) in order to tighten up his ship, and make ROCKNROLLA, and then go main mainstream with Sherlock Holmes (I & II).....but we all want that Sequel!

revolver is a damn good flick.. kinda strange how u could not see it.. the characters where not the main focal point of the movie.. it was the plot.. the battle with the "enemy". very deep and very good.. as for sticking to a theme, how dose that make every movie the same? far as i have seen they all are unique. try watching with your brain and not your eyes.

Revolver is easily one of his best films. Watch it again!

The problem with Revolver is that it's built around a twist that is incredibly obvious within the first 3rd of the movie.
