Peter Bagdonavich was a very charismatic gentleman in his day, it seems. He had a longtime marriage to production designer Polly Platt, then Shepherd...then Dorothy Stratten fell in love with him.

I think that sometimes very beautiful women (like Shepherd and Stratten) know from their own experience that physical looks are somewhat superficial, and are attracted to intelligent men who aren't necessarily that good looking. It must be something of a relief to them to not always have to focus on a person's looks.

I don't buy that for a second. Polly Platt was a normal woman who fell in love with a normal man. Then Peter hit it big and was an oscar nominee and was making big time films so he left her for cybill who probably just did it because she thought it would help her career. ditto for stratten. and ditto for stratten's sister. christ... i gotta become a film director !!!

But Shepherd only began her relationship with Bagdonavich after they began filming The Last Picture Show. She really didn't need his help to further her career....she was pretty much the most famous model of her era and would have had movie offers anyway, and the films she made for other directors were much, much better and bigger hits than the followup efforts Bagdonavich saddled her with.

Maybe he was great in bed? We don't know. He'd certainly be a very interesting man to talk with....that's a very attractive quality.

Any successful filmmaker would make be a cool person to speak with. They probably have the best stories to tell. Particularly anyone from like the 60s or 70s.

I would guess most gorgeous women are with men who are more ordinary-looking than themselves. Men are very, very fixated on their partner's looks. Women, not so much. Just like sex is VASTLY important to men in a relationship, whereas with women, that's just one part of the overall partnership.

What are you talking about? Gorgeous women ONLY stay with gorgeous men. Angelina Jolie... Victoria Beckham... Giselle Bundchen... Nicole Kidman... Kelly Preston... The list goes on and on.

She was very beautiful in the Last Picture Show. I remember that movie only because she was so captivating. She wasn't too interesting in the 80's and beyond.

I saw The Last Picture Show years ago on TV. I was only 4 when it came out. The movie was OK. I also saw Moonlighting sporadically. she was a pretty young lady in her day, and seems like a nice person. I am not too familiar with Peter B as a person, but have seen a few of his films. I recently watched The Cat's Meow, I think he directed that as well. Good looking guys date and marry average looking woman as well. Whomever makes you happy. However, Cybil's character in "Last Picture Show" was a heartless brat!
