Why is Ridley Scott filming "Wraiths of the Broken Land"? Is his career on the skids?

I'm reading this book now and I have to tell you, it is total garbage so far. The writing style is stilted and awkward. The author, (who wrote and directed "Bone Tomahawk") obviously used a thesaurus for practically every other word. Nothing is "hairy" but it's always "hirsute". Food is "provender". It's just so laughably pretentious. There are hundreds of better-written stories to be found even on sites like Wattpad. This is very amateurish writing.

The story is also full of over-the-top gore and sexual violence, but it's not even shocking. It just seems incredibly overdone and pathetic. You really have to wonder about the author's state of mind and mental health. What kind of healthy-minded person would imagine stuff like this? For example, in the introduction, a woman who has been kept as a sex slave for eight months wakes up in pain from the open sores on her back. She feels something strange in her vagina and pulls out a baby turtle that a customer has inserted in her. Then a Mexican with a wooden nose comes in and force feeds her rotten chicken soup from a pig's intestine. After she vomits, a trained circus dog comes in the room and she takes a liking to it, so the Mexican slams the dog's head in the door until splinters of its skull poke through its skin. That's just the first few pages. It's just total moronic garbage after garbage.

What was Ridley Scott, the man behind classics such as The Duelists, Alien,
Gladiator and Kingdom of Heaven thinking when he picked up this STEAMING TURD of a story? He gave up on the classic Cormac McCarthy novel, Blood Meridian, yet he chooses THIS...
