Cool trivia re: a certain punk band

I always assumed the Paul Reubens must have had some kind of connection to the early LA punk scene, because Tito Larriva (The Plugz etc.) and Nicole Panter (manager of The Germs) were characters in his early Pee-Wee Herman live shows. But I had no idea about this. I was just listening to a Pleasant Gheman podcast he guested on a couple years ago and he gave up some cool trivia-

Reubens grew up in Sarasota FL. In high school, one of his friends was a girl name Christene. They were both generally trippy people with eclectic tastes. After he graduated, he was accepted at CalArts and moved to LA.

A little while later, Christene decided to leave FL, so she jumped into a car and just started driving west with no destination in mind. Eventually she made it all the way to the west coast, and she had Reuben's number and address so she went to visit him. She stayed in LA a few days and liked it and decided to hammer down stakes and live there.

One day, she mentioned to Reubens that she'd joined a poetry workshop and met a really cool guy in it. The guy was just starting a new band, and he invited her to join. The guy was John Doe, the band was X, and Christene changed her name to Exene.
