L'Oreal, why Andie MacDowell

I have nothing against Andie MacDowell. She was the typical RomCom actress of the 90s and she's still a good looking lady in her later years. But let's be real. Why is L'Oreal still using her in ads? I'm sure she's getting a heft sum every year. Did they sign a 20 year contract with her something? Thinking she would be famous forever?
I always wonder why they don't get a more relevant actress. The only reason why I still remember her name, despite her lack of major roles in the past 10 years, is because she does those commercials.
Why is L'Oreal pretending that she is still relevant in popular culture?

I would guess L'Oreal continue to use Andie in their ads because she's still an outstandingly beautiful woman. L'Oreal's target audience is older, 35-50, and Andie is certainly a woman many females in this age group would apsire to look like. How's that not relevant?

Andie MacDowell being beautiful does not make her relevant, it makes her beautiful. She's not culturally or socially significant anymore. There are dozens of other actresses that could easily fill that role, and L'Oreal would be paying someone that will bring in a draw because of a fan base. Currently, they're just spending money on a model that hasn't been in demand for 20 years.

Who cares? That's one of the stupidest things I ever heard to complain about.

I think the point is that as the other poster says, she's relevant to the target market. 35 to 50 know who she is and that's what matters. As a long standing face of a cream that alleges to keep you looking youthful longer it makes a lot of sense, because she looks pretty amazing for her years and that's what these women will be thinking when they see her face on TV. More and more women start to use these creams as they get older and these older women will make up a lot of their customer base both continued and new. I think you're looking it it all wrong. Anti-aging products are not targeting the 16-24 demographic who might give a damn about who is "culturally relevant".

They have Beyonce for their True Match line. She's relevant...I guess. Scarlett Johannsen has also worked with them I think. But I think I've wandered the same thing about Loreal's choice to employ Andie MacDowell for so long, but then I thought about how much more gorgeous she is than anyone who is her age and even younger. She seems to be a natural, normal, real person. Sticking with her isn't a bad decision as far as I can tell.

Andie looks fantastic at 55. These commercials are geared towards women who remember Andie when she was in her twenties...when THEY were in their twenties!

I better get me some of whatever she's using! or "I'll have what she's having!"

Its' brilliant.

May I ask where did you wander to and from where did you wander?
