All these years and I never knew...

...her father was Vic Morrow.

He was killed the same year Fast Times came out. You would think their relationship would have been a bigger news story at the time.

Or perhaps I missed it?

His death was a big news story, but I don't recall JJL being tied to him.

She mentioned her biological father in this interview. She grew up with her mother and she's clearly the most influential figure in her life.

If you listen to Amy Heckerling's commentary for Fast Times, she alludes to the Vic Morrow accident without speaking of it directly. Since this occurred while principal photography was going on, Heckerling said that she and the cast all felt very protective of Jennifer during the shoot. Heckerling admired her professionalism even though she was quite young at the time. The real life circumstances of her father's death would have made her performance in Eyes Wide Shut all the more poignant but unfortunately she was off with Cronenberg making eXistenZ by the time Kubrick was set to do extensive reshoots and so the part of the woman whose father has just died went to Marie Richardson.

Maybe that made her performance too raw for even Kubrick.

[ Super Cool ] Vic Morrow! One of my favorites. Loved his character in ' Combat '.

Here is a interview Jennifer gave to People Magazine shortly after her father's death:

It clears up a lot of things about their estrangement and how she wished things had been different. She clearly loved him and hoped that they would have a closer relationship, but fate had other plans.

Thank you.

Nice to see that you're a fan of ' Love with the Proper Stranger ', one of my all time faves. Love the ending. That ending, along with the ending of ' Dear Heart ', are probably in my top five. I'll be happy as a clam at high tide if it ever gets released on dvd.
