Bill was robbed of the Oscar for Children role.

James Leeds from Children of a Lesser God is William Hurt's best role in my opinion. He absolutely should have won the Oscar for this. I mean I love Paul Newman. And he deserves every accolade that he gets. But Bill should've won that year, hands down. The only reason he didn't is because he won the year before for Kiss of the Spider Woman. But his performance in COALG was miles above his performance in KOTSW. I don't think people realize just how complex this role was. There were so many different things going on at once here. Not only did he have to learn sign language for the role, but he had to simultaneously act out his lines and repeat out loud what Marlee's character was saying as well, all while performing sign language that he had just recently learned. All that plus having to make it all sound natural, like he'd been doing it for years. Not many actors could've pulled it all off as smoothly and effortlessly as he did. He was just incredible in this role. Such a shame he didn't win.
