How is this stunning talented woman not in more things?

How is that even possible?

I've been in love with her since I was a kid and I saw her in that god aweful Dracula movie but she wasn't bad in a frame. Everything you see her in she gives her 100%. How is this stunning talented woman not in more things?

She is not ambitious and not that dedicated to her craft. She's a good actress, but I don't think she enjoys acting that much as to have to do it full time. She's happy just doing small films in long periods of time. You'll never see her doing 3 movies a year and guest starring in high profile series. She doesn't work like that.
Stranger Things is the most famous project she's been in I'd say since 2010 so that says a lot. At this time she's filming season 2 but I don't think she has work lined up for after that. It's sad for her fans but she's happy like that.

Agree with you 100 percent. I was about to take issue with the second half of your statement, that she's not dedicated to her craft, was gonna tweak it to say that she's not dedicated to her career. But, upon reflection, you're absolutely right.

Frankly, I think she's bored with acting. I mean she's been a professional actor since she was 13. By all indications, she's a very smart person and for someone of her intellect, I think acting just doesn't hold the interest it once did. For the most part the roles she takes these days are small and lets her work with either her friends (Tim Burton, James Franco, Keanu Reeves), people she knows (Michael Almereyda, Rebecca Miller) or writers she respects (David Hare, David Simon). And the roles she takes aren't really outside of the comfort zone of what she knows how to play, nothing that would require an extra commitment on her part. She comes on set, hits the mark, does her work, and goes home.

The acclaim she's received for Stranger Things has been a double-edged sword for her in a way. (In my opinion anyway.) For starters, it wasn't a project she actively sought out, it was the casting director who suggested her to the Duffers. And to be honest, she wasn't anticipating or even hoping that it would become the hit it has. Ryder would have been perfectly content to do the job, collect her paycheck and then slip out of the limelight again. And now that she's committed to a second season, I seriously doubt that she would want to take on the added work of other projects. I might be wrong about this(I don't think I am though) but Stranger Things is gonna be the only thing she does for awhile, not for lack of demand for her but because that's the way she wants it.

I think this isnt correct, in several interviews she indicates that she doesnt get many roles offered.
The role of the queen in Snow White, she lost to Charlize.
I think she will use her current popularity to get more new roles. (lets hope so)

She's said in interviews she does get offers, but they are mostly 'mum' roles she does not find appealing. Like it's been said before, she does not feel she needs to act full time. Imagine you had the chance to only work when you wanted to. Unless you really enjoy what you do I doubt you'd show up everyday if you did not have to. It's a similar thing here.
Acting for her is not paramount, unlike for some other actors who really enjoy it. She's in a comfortable financial position which allows her to take long periods of time without working. If something comes up that appeals to her she'll do it, but she is not going to purposely look for a role or audition/campaign for one, that's not how she works.
I don't even think money is a motivating factor anymore (unless they paid her a massive amount which will never happen). I don't think she got paid much for films like Experimenter or Turks and Caicos. I wonder how much she's been paid for Stranger Things 2 given the success the first part had.
I doubt she was offered the Snow White queen role. Not only it is a film she would have never done, but I am sure the producers wanted someone more famous and high profile, thus why they went for Charlize.

Actually, it was Winona herself who reached the studio because she was interested in Snow White (and so did Angelina Jolie for that matter), and not the other way around.

And personally, I'm glad they went with Charlize. Winona would have been glorious in the evil queen role (Charlize is beautiful and everything, but she was ridiculously over the top, probably due to lack of direction), but the film was a total mess...
