Any truth to the rumour that she was a contender for Rose in Titanic?

I've heard a few times that she was turned down for the role of Rose in Titanic that is now famously played by Kate Winslet. Does anyone else know, particularly die hard Ricci fans, if there's any truth to this? Has Christina herself spoken about it? I myself personally cannot envision Ricci in the role, but I can certainly see Winona Ryder as Rose, who was the corset queen of the film industry at the time, since I've also heard she was considered for the part at some stage...

I've never heard of Ricci associated with this film. I thought Paltrow was offered the part?

She have only been about 16 during filming so if she did go for it, it was probably an age factor that got her turned down.
