The two or three good films by David Lynch

The Elephant Man and The Straight Story. I think Eraserhead was alright too (I don't think it contained inappropriate content). But all the other films contain inappropriate content and I cannot support them. I wish he would make more movies like The Elephant Man and The Straight Story and even weird ones like Eraserhead. But if it is rated R then I will not be watching them.

"His determination to do what he knows he's got to do".

In this case it's understandable - he needs to complete his journey of atonement his way (that is, the hard way) or it wouldn't be worth a thing at all. On the whole, however, his stubbornness and extreme individualism tend to cross over into self destructive stupidity - nowhere better exemplified than in the early scene with the doctor where he blatantly refuses all medical help, refuses to quit smoking, refuses to change his diet. And then he goes home and lies to his daughter that, according to the doc, he'll "live to be a hundred". Many people seem to think of it as endearing, what's with the feisty old codger doing everything his way, but I seriously doubt Lynch meant it to be viewed as something that should be celebrated.
