Loathe this guy

I don't get the popularity of this fellow. I don't find him funny at all and am annoyed by him. Thankfully, I haven't seen anything in which he stars -- I can't imagine how anyone could sit through that. I can barely tolerate brief scenes with him as a minor character (e.g., "Love Actually" a great movie EXCEPT for the few scenes with him). He's dreadful.

So you haven't seen any of his major roles, yet you think he isn't funny. Nothing like an informed opinion.

The Blackadder series, especially the last one Blackadder Goes Forth, which also stars Hugh Laurie (House) and Stephen Fry (Wilde, V for Vendetta) is one of the best comedy series ever made, and Atkinson is brilliant in it. His character in that series is the other end of the comedy spectrum from his Mr. Bean character.

Why would I want to watch a movie in which Atkinson is the main star if I can barely sit through a scene with him in which he plays a supporting role?? I clearly would have no interest in watching that and wouldn't like it. I've suffered through the brief scenes with him in Love Actually (which I liked except for those scenes) and tolerated his presence in Rat Race. He was abominable, clearly making every effort at being funny and completely falling flat.

I've seen him briefly in a couple of movies and he doesn't strike me as very funny. You criticize me as not having "an informed opinion." Is my opinion not "informed" because it is not the same as yours? I would bet money that if I managed to sit through the alleged "best comedy series ever made" Blackadder and still didn't like Atkinson, you would then criticize me for actually watching something in which Atkinson is the main actor.

My point is: I've seen him in a couple of things. He tried to be funny, clearly was placed in the movie for humor, and, IMO, he failed. Why would I waste my time seeking out something starring this fool if I wasn't impressed by brief scenes in which he appears in other movies? I guess that I am "uninformed" because I've got something better to do???

Perhaps your opinion is "uninformed" if you don't realize that someone else can have a different view of something than you do.

Are you always so negative in your live?I accept that there are actors I don't like but I wll never say that I can't tolerate an actor's presence.Maybe his parts in the movies you have seen were not well-written.In my opinion, you exaggerate.Someone could believe he is your worst enemy!!
My point is you can't judge an actor's ability if you have only seen him in brief appearances and even if you were right you expressed it in a very exaggerated way.For example, there are many people who don't like him as mr bean at all but they like him as blackadder.I think he is a great actor and you are unfair.
At least, show some respect for his fans and for him as person, even if you don't like him as an actor, which it is acceptable.

Why would you bother looking up someone on IMDB, going to the board and posting about him if you loathe him? To see how many fans you can stir up? Too much time on your hands? No Trolls-R-Us meeting this week? LOL

"Is my opinion not 'informed' because it is not the same as yours? "

No. I respect many people with whom I have a difference of opinion. Your opinion is not informed because you haven't seen his major roles. He's a versatile comedic actor. Someone who can play both Mr. Bean and Edmund Blackadder would have to be. You saying you don't like him because you've seen him "briefly" is like someone saying they don't like Marlon Brando because of Superman.

"would bet money that if I managed to sit through the alleged 'best comedy series ever made'"

Typical. Way to misquote me. I said it was "one of the best comedy series ever made." And I stand behind that. I'd put it in the top 10.

"and still didn't like Atkinson, you would then criticize me for actually watching something in which Atkinson is the main actor. "

Why would I do that? That doesn't even make sense. You come on this board and say you don't like him. I say you should see Blackadder, especially Blackadder Goes Forth because they would help you see why people like him.

My fault for not recognizing a troll immediately.

"I guess that I am 'uninformed' because I've got something better to do???"

Well, yes. If you want to troll a board and say someone is terrible but are too busy to actually watch his best work, that pretty much defines "uninformed." Of course, there's nothing wrong with not being informed about a particular actor, but there is something a little odd about going on a message board and insulting him, and then getting indignant when someone calls you out on it.

"Perhaps your opinion is 'uninformed' if you don't realize that someone else can have a different view of something than you do.

And once again, I respect people who disagree with me. I don't respect people who talk out of their ass.

So basically your judging him on supporting roles, well done.

I understand peoples opinions, but saying some thing like "I dont see how *anyone* can stand this guy" is pretty *beep* ridiculous when your talking about some one like Rowan Atkinson
