Could He Have Stood A Chance Today

If he was still alive today, how would he hold up in the changing music industry?

reply

He had looks and voice. Surely he would domwell with modern songs.

reply

he had style, great looks and a great voice. what more do you need?

reply

He would have walked through the door -which was what he did- and that would be that. He would Certainly be handled much differently and no service commitment which would have put heavy concentration into his earliest years.

He still has the best Christmas album and single "Ill be home." Nobody else close with the possible exception of Crosby who made "Im dreaming" at the start of WW2 for a generational hit.

If he was still alive today, he'd be 87 years old. Assuming he was still healthy enough to perform, he probably would be relegated to the nostalgia circuit. Can't really see him as doing any collaborations with modern artists in modern styles. He would still command a good level of respect though.

Would've been interesting to see what he might've done in the late 1970's through the 80's & 90's.

reply

I was wondering the same thing.

reply

The 1980's, with the Rockabilly revival (Stray Cats, Robert Gordon, Marshall Crenshaw, Shakin' Stevens etc) might've shaken him out of his Vegas lethargy,

reply

Good observation.
