If he had lived how would he be seen now?

I mean if he were still alive, do you think he would have had a long career, and be a respected actor today, or do you think he would have burned up young?

He would be a world renowned director. That is where he himself said he was heading. He actually helped NicK Ray direct Rebel.

I believe he may have ended up sorta like ole Clint Eastwood. Not that they were alike so much.. But because Clint is an actor/director

I also firmly believe, had he lived..he would have given Marlon Brando a run for his money in regards to being considered our best film actor.

How would he be seen now? Im not sure. If he were smart about it, hed of did his best to not overstay his welcome. I think he would have predominantly left performing for directing thereby not overstaying his welcome. This way he could explore his other talents while very much staying involved with the process of story telling & movie-making. He kinda hinted to this direction so I believe this MAY have been his thinking.

I could see him in some of Paul Newman's movies like Hud or Cool Hand Luke . Dean would have excelled in those roles. I think he would have taken some of Steve. McQueen 's roles as well. Like The Great Escape or Soldier in the Rain . I'm not saying Dean was superior to Newman or McQueen, but I do think his career would have paralleled theirs as icons of "cool ".

Eventually dismissed as a teen star from the mid-fifties, as was Sal Mineo--his career went nowhere . . .

unfortunately, i think he probably would've ended up dead at a young age anyways. i think he would have probably gotten into drugs and OD'd either accidentally or purposely. hate to say it, but sometimes young people don't know what to do with their fame do they squander it on drugs, alcohol etc.

Also, he smoked like a chimney. There's no way he would have lived to his 80s.

I think it was Jane Leeves who said "he would be fat and acting on DYNASTY."

She's probably right. Or he would have had one of those CBS geezer dramas of the '80s and '90s where he'd be a small-town detective, and his semi-forgotten 1950s actor friends would be the weekly guest stars.
