Aurora's roundtrip ticket.

So we learned there is really wasnt a way (besides the autodoc which wasnt ideal because 1 autodoc would mean she would be in it the whole time and no one else could use it) to put people back into hibernation and it would take another ship 90 yrs to arrive from earth so how was Aurora planning on going back to earth in a year? Was there another ship that left 1 yr after they did and would arrive within that time frame to with the right equipment to pick up passengers? She said no one had ever gone to one of these new planets and then returned back to earth so I would think the smartest idea would have been to have everything she needed with her and have that ship stay with her for a year. I mean the 1 autodoc thing was dumb enough but the roundtrip ticket thing made no sense. It would have made more sense if they had the equipment with them to put just her back into hibernation since she was the 1 roundtrip ticket and the autodoc not be able to do such a thing and have her decide she wants to stay awake instead.

It's very wicked of you to point out yet another one of Passengers' countless plot inconsistencies. Jim and Aurora have multitudes of adoring fans on this board who are dabbing their eyes with tissues and tearfully wondering why these two characters didn't have children together, while fondly hoping for a sequel.
It's true - the plot was as tight as a sieve - but you're just spoiling things by directing attention toward these amateurish mistakes.

PS. Don't tell anybody - but Passengers is actually a cover-up. Here's the true story: the Avalon blew up in a giant fireball before it even left the solar system. Jim and Aurora died a fiery death trapped in their pods.

No one had ever come back, because the travel system began less than 300 years ago (speculation). She would return with the same ship after it has been under maintenance and resupply. Don't over think it ;)

Why wouldn't there be another hibernation facility at Homestead II? I'm sure there will be ships scheduled to head back to Earth (from Homestead II) and to do that you need to put the passengers in hibernation.

The computer said there have been thousands of space flights and HS2 is one of many of the occupied worlds. I think it's reasonable to assume that the colony has been established with hibernation facilities for the return trip. It would make more sense if there were more people who made the round trip besides the crew. The original script said that Gus is 600 years old with several flights but was cut from the theatrical script.

I liked the movie for what it is, entertainment. You should not look at this movie as a science reference.

The movie...

They never mention a date so who knows how far they are into the future. So a self running and repairing ship is possible, but who knows when. Look at voyager, the probe that could.

You're right, dennismonares510, this movie is entertainment. I'm not "dabbing my eyes," but I enjoyed it very much. There appear to be a lot of people who require perfection, or near perfection in every plot point and scientific detail. Theirs is a sad existence, since there must be very few movies they are able to enjoy.
