Alien 3 was the ending, Resurrection is an expansion pack for morons.

By the same token Alien was the ending, and Aliens was the expansion pack for morons.

Or Aliens was, and Alien 3 was...etc etc

They are all closed narratives, that the next sequel re-opens.

Just because you didn't like what they did in 4 doesn't make it any less valid, or part of the canon, than Alien 3 or Aliens. There was no mention of a prison planet in Alien, there was no mention of a human colony in Alien.
