GARTH GAME : THE PLAY'S THE THING (COMPLETED)

01) INTRODUCTION:

And the Movie too
__________________________________________________________________________

SONG:

Oh, we want a game just like the game
That Matt Garth gets to post

It is a quiz, and the only quiz
That players love to roast

A real old-fashioned contest
With no clues

One where every player
Cannot lose

Oh, we want a game just like the game
Where Matt Garth is the host

QUOTE:

"I picked the wrong PLAY, the wrong director, the wrong cast -- where did I go right?"
--- 'Max Bialystock' (Zero Mostel) in THE PRODUCERS

**********************************************************************************

02) SET-UP: Alphabetically and numerically listed below in BLUE are 160 ACTORS -- many of them (more than half) career OSCARED (winning or nominated). Two of the ACTORS can be matched in a unique way. Both have portrayed the same character in a leading or prominent role -- one in an original BROADWAY PRODUCTION (BP) and the other in the later FEATURE FILM (FF) version. No theater revivals or TV Movies. There will always be at least one OSCARED (W or N) ACTOR in the matchup (and sometimes both).

03) CHALLENGE: Match and label the two ACTORS (BP & FF) and identify the PLAY/FILM title. An example is offered below. Some titles and character names may have changed from PLAY to FILM. To avoid posting confusion, it is recommended that players use the 'in-line' viewing service. Just ONE response per post, and only THREE consecutive guesses before another player participates. ACTORS will be reunited in RED when solved, along with the PLAY/FILM TITLE and the name of the clever player who solved it.

04) Contest Statistics:
160 ACTORS / 80-plus TITLES / 80 BROADWAY PRODUCTIONS (BP) / 80 FEATURE FILMS (FF)
___________________________________________________________________________

05) EXAMPLE:
164. JAMES EARL JONES and 176. Denzel Washington
These two ACTORS are a PLAY/FILM match.

06) POSTING PROCEDURE:
-- a) Place NUMBERS and TITLE(s) on the Subject Line.
Ex.: 164/176 -- FENCES
-- b) Place ACTORS (last names will suffice) and labels (BP & FF)in the Message Box.
Ex.: Jones (BP) / Washington (FF)

07) SPECIAL NOTATIONS: NTA = 'Not the Answer' / KP = 'Keep Pursuing' (on the right track) / QS = 'Quit Searching' (on the wrong path). Only one matchup can be correct (mine - it's good to be the QM) in order to avoid creating orphans. Do not return to update a previous post -- this vehicle cannot make U-Turns. Duplicate responses are determined by the earlier time stamp.
____________________________________________________________________________

08) EQUATIONS:
Questions: 30%-Easy / 30%-Challenging / 30%-Difficult / 10%-Impossible
Answers: 99% - Absolutely Accurate / 01% - Garth Gaffe (Advance Apology Extended)

09) SCORES: will appear below in PURPLE on the Scoreboard in groupings of THREE.
** Denotes DDC (Double Digit Club) Membership / LLS (Last Link Standing)

10) QUIZMASTER MANIFESTO: After a warm welcome and helpful hints for incorrect answers, the QM may not always respond to every post. Not being unfriendly -- just utilizing the time more wisely by keeping the Scoreboard U-T-D (Up-To-Date). Besides, too many posts might scare off potential players and it's just too boring to keep typing 'YES' over and over. When traffic becomes overwhelming, the QM will post correct answers five at a time and group the corrections. Be patient about those Updates -- the QM thinks and types slowly (do you prefer 'em fast or accurate - I don't do both).
