Beggar Monks

Have you encountered any Buddhist Monks that give bracelets and other trinkets in exchange for monetary donations?

I live in a big city, and I see some of those guys sometimes. While I do give to beggars often, for some reason I don't feel inclined to give to the monks - even with the promise of getting something in exchange. I don't know why, though....

(Although now that I think about it, I probably should because I've recently read that Buddhist monks rely on alms for survival. Then again, they're not allowed to be forward about it.)
