Barbra Streisand's comments/ backlash re: Michael Jackson/pedophilia

What a mess.

She used bad wording, but was not trivializing pedophilia when she said it did not kill them. Essentially, she offended both the defenders and accusers in one paragraph.
She was likely trying to say that the victims are functioning adults and the question of whether they are permanently traumatized and scarred for life is not true for everyone. We do not know how the scenarios played out, meaning forced rape or consensual--even though consensual sex with a minor is a crime and can traumatize depending on the victim

And she was right when she blamed the parents who were so damn starry-eyed to allow them to sleep with MJ only because he was some famous idol. Any other man would get the heave-ho, much less who looked and acted like MJ.

This is one interview she should have had her PR write in advance, or she needed to expand upon. Throw in the fact that readers are again arguing whether he's guilty or not, and it only depends the outrage--of--the--month.
(I am not a big fan of her music)

“His sexual needs were his sexual needs, coming from whatever childhood he has or whatever DNA he has," Streisand told The Times. “You can say ‘molested,' but those children, as you heard say [grown-up Robson and Safechuck], they were thrilled to be there. They both married and they both have children, so it didn’t kill them.”

This was a very misguided statement in the way that Liam Neeson's 'I wanted to get into a fight with a black man forty years ago' statement was, but not because either Streisand or Neeson admissions were wrong per se, but because they were simply making statements that were too honest and too nuanced for today's braindead and easily-outraged 280-characters or less generation.

This is precisely why we shouldn't let the Millennials and Generation Z be in charge of anything. They don't understand nuance and complexity. They're not old enough and sophisticated enough yet. They see everything in very absolute black and white terms.
