Trending Bar

I just clicked on the Trending bar for Hot Pursuit (1987) which had a last 4 minutes ago on it. I've used the trending bar to check out a few of the boards I haven't visited.

WELL, there was no posting under the title when I checked, but when I double checked again fom the Trending bar it said 6 minutes, and again I checked after going to the title, no posts, rechecked the bar. Sooo, I understand now that if we click the title on thet rending bar it'll show someone has commented or posted onto that board, right? Just by clicking on it it makes it look like it's trending???

I wanted to know why it was trending too! I looked at it and thought it was a sex comedy, an 80s sex comedy I've not seen, but no posts to tell me what it is.

The last few days I've noticed shows and movies which are sort of out of sight, and it made me wonder if someone is putting them in the trending board. My first thought though was wow, there are more people using Movie Chat than I thought if they're commenting in all these boards.

reply

I never commented much on IMDb but I lurked like a sonofabitch for almost 12 years. I think the smaller amount of people relative to the huge number of IMDb members is making people like me come out of the woodwork.

reply

"I think the smaller amount of people relative to the huge number of IMDb members is making people like me come out of the woodwork." I'm so glad to hear it. Yeah, I like small. I know Movie Chat wil grow in members, but for now I'm enjoying the peacefulness.

I commented on the boards of the shows I watch on a regular basis, not all over the place like some members did. The amount of troll comments made it difficult to want to comment though. The intimidation factor alone made me shut down. Here, I've got to again sharpen my discussion skills.

I will debate if someone gets my ire up 'cause they're totally ignorant on the subject. I prefer not to. Here I haven't seen but one debate, and I wouldn't have joined in unless the one who was aligned with my vew had trouble. She/He did well.

Questions I have which lead to discussions I don't mind. Blog? I would love to read! Send me a link to [email protected]

You'd be surprised what I have bookmarked. I'm eclectic.

reply

That's a good way to be.

reply

I think a lot of people reply only when they strongly agree or disagree with a thread. I know that's how I am.

reply

And it's easier to feel strongly about a disagreement, I'm afraid!

reply

I suppose that is true for many people. But, for me, I prefer responding to those with whom I agree--it's like finding a friend who I have something in common with if only about whether a TV show is good or bad.

reply

Also a good way to be.

reply

Sometimes I feel inept just responding Agree or Disagree, but after countless comments which are half pages long, what can I say.. 😟

reply

Just expressing your opinion whether it's simply stating your agreement or disagreement is fine. I usually try to add why I agree with someone. For instance, several people commented about how bad the wigs were on the female character in a certain TV movie. I pointed out that these producers had a habit of putting many of their female leads in fake looking wigs.

reply

I made a post on Hot Pursuit board, hoping this will somehow stop the error, but nothing has changed. This movie still occasionally appears up there like it has a mind of its own.

Movie The Clan of the Cave Bear does the same.

Oh, I didn't even know that's possible. I thought that deleted posts leave [deleted] sign behind them.

"Not if you start a new thread/post."

Have you tried this? And it really didn't leave a trace behind? Jim really has to correct this as soon as possible.

Well, what do you know... I just deleted the post I made on Hot Pursuit board, and there's no trace left of it. :)

reply

Yes lol

I wonder what happens if I start a thread, 10 people answer on it, and then I delete the original post. All the posts will be gone, I suppose.

EDIT: yep... it disappeared with all the posts in it.

(the thread I deleted wasn't important, more sort of a public PM... but if someone does the same to some significant thread, Houston, we have a problem)

Sure I liked the freedom... but it's a different thing if it happens on a movie board. Someone could start a new thread with a question about the movie, then 10 people answer him in length, some new theories start to be discussed and some interesting details about the movie emerge... and next thing you know, the OP deleted the thread and all the effort people put into it was for nothing. :(

Post 215

(don't mind the number written above, it's for my consideration)

Yes, definitely. Btw, I just counted all my posts, and this one is No 215. I'll watch closely for a while if any of them disappears.

And this whole exchange maybe shows why it could be a good idea to have that Feedback Forum. It's a delicate balance setting up rules and regulations and all that....it could be an ever-changing thing.

If we had a place to air all that out and get a possible consensus on important things like this it could make it easier and more transparent to get this stuff done and figured out.

reply

Agreed. Except the ability of the OP to delete ALL the posts in his thread doesn't even have anything to do with rules and regulations. It's a serious PROBLEM.

But having a Feedback Forum would be nice, yeah.

reply

In that case that sort of issue should go straight to Jim and should be emailed about. I think that's the best course of action for any pressing matters.

I agree that the deletion of one persons post shouldn't damn a whole thread that may contain valuable info otherwise. Those should remain even if the OPs comments don't.

reply

This is one more reason why we shouldn't feed trolls. When they start a thread with some stupid question, there's no point of answering them cause they can just delete it all on a whim, so why even bother. :)

reply

I also agree with this...just let the thread sink and die. It doesn't have to be any harder than that!

I didn't know about the deletions. Wow. I learn something new each day. I Have noticed the threads I definitely commented on on the other site have the older comments but mine are showing as deleted. Odd..

"Movie The Clan of the Cave Bear does the same." No, two others besides myself Did post & comment.

reply

Your thread is visible on that movie board, but someone else kept posting and deleting his posts very recently, like only couple of hours ago.

But anyway, in the meantime jim fixed the problem and threads can't be deleted anymore :)

reply

Just checked and I see.. Jim's on it, baby!!!

Do they serve drinks there or....?

Sorry, stupid attempt at some levity :P
