UPDATE: IMDB's General Discussion Boards Have Been Added

Good news! We just finished uploading IMDB's general discussion boards with archived posts. Next up we'll be working on several other updates to make MovieChat.org even better :) Stay tuned!

Note: to do this, we had to take the site offline for a little bit this morning (apologies to those who were trying to access it during that time).

Here's an example of what I'm talking about.

Here's an IMDb thread (just as it appeared on IMDb):

http://web.archive.org/web/20170219211602/http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0346156/board/nest/161124262?p=1

And here's the version of the thread that's archived here:

http://www.moviechat.org/movies/tt0346156/posts/58a10ed7c575f60b62d57a8d

As you can see, the MovieChat version only has what was on page 1 of the original thread: the OP, plus 9 replies. It is missing the additional 9 replies that were on page two of the original IMDb thread.

I did wonder what would happen after IMDB took down Message Boards + PM's

Glad they have sorted out another way of communication, Just seen that they did keep the old for Film talk, TV talk, Genre Zone etc- I thought they got rid of these as well glad they didn't :-)

@cinema, that's a possiblity. Both HTTrack and chobar's script were easily able to download every page automatically, but I don't know what Jim used.

As for the Wayback Machine, it has little in the way of "crawling", so more or less everything has to be added manually. That's why I only added a few boards to the Wayback Machine: it's very labor-intensive compared to HTTrack and chobar's script (which crawled and downloaded everything automatically).

I wonder if there's any way to update the current archived boards on MovieChat using the versions of the boards that I and others downloaded and/or submitted to the Wayback Machine? That would fix the 9-reply problem for at least a few boards.

Wow, this place is really starting to take shape now. There's really no need to sign up for any of the other IMDb replacements (for me, anyway), Movie Chat is where it's at. Can't wait to see how it grows in the future. :)

Jim, if you could, please please please add an UP button!
