Dimly televisions

When my mom and I were trying to watch our hotel TV we noticed that it has become really dim and we don't know what causes it. When we checked in our hotel TV was fine but at midnight the TV started going dim like it's dying. I had my dad check for a brightness control to adjust the brightness on the TV but there are no troubleshooting menus on it. The TV is a Samsung TV and so i'm wondering if this is a common problem with Samsung TV's? And is there another troubleshooting menu my dad could search for on the TV?
