The actor Charles Coburn

I have always liked this actor, who died in 1961, and have several of his movies on DVD. Can anyone tell me if a biography of him has ever been written and if so let me have the details? Many thanks.

reply

Not sure if a biography has been made, but I never tire of watching 'The Devil And Miss Jones' one of my favorites.

Thanks Oerlicon for the reply - I like all his movies - the other night I watched the GREEN GRASS OF WYOMING (1947) and also the PARADINE CASE - both very good movies. I cannot find any trace of a biography of Charles Coburn being written but I shall keep looking.

There's a niche in the market for you then.
Can I book a signed copy in advance?

reply

Oerlicon - Yes! By the way I am currently trying to obtain on DVD THE DEVIL AND MISS JONES here in the UK but to date without success. If you have suggestions please let me know - and thanks.

reply

No sorry, I only have it on video, it was shown a few months back on tcm I think.

reply

Oerlicon, Thanks for the reply - my inquiries have shown that this movie has yet to be released on DVD as far as Region 2 is concerned but I shall keep trying. Incidentally August 30 is the 48th anniversary of Charles Coburn's death and I intend to watch one of his movies that evening.

You are obviously a true fan brand78, and that's a lovely thing to do. I did the same thing for Tony Hancock a couple of months back. I'm sure Mr Coburn will be looking down and smiling at the fact that he's far from forgotten! (not many of the actors from that era can say that) and that people are still enjoying his work.

Oerlicon, Thanks for your note - you are absolutely right: Charles Coburn was
a fine actor. I recently watched him in two ovies, WILSON and THE PARADINE CASE - two very good movies; have you seen them? By the way if I find a biography of Charles Coburn I shall send you a private message at once as you may well wish to read it yourself.
