The Magnificent Seven (1960)

I watched "The Magnificent Seven" (1960) for the first time in at least a decade and found I still loved it. I still recall going to the drive-in back in the early 60's and seeing it for the first time. I would swear I see something new I missed during past viewings.

I like the 1960 Mag/Seven better than you do, know you're coming from. The actors are great, the photography is stunning, the music beyond praise. These three factors make the movie work for me more than the story itself. I just can't buy it. There's an unreality to it, and a lack of depth in many of the characterizations. Because of the masterful direction of John Dturges, the movie commands my respect, and yet I have little real affection for it.
