I saw a professional theater do Heathers. There are a few good songs. But, it seems like a paint by numbers show. I have also seen a bootleg of the off-broadway production and didn't feel any differently. It is on par with Batboy by the same creative team. But, doesn't rise to their best effort Legally Blonde. "I Love My Dead Gay Son" is probably the best song.
Superman is probably the worst production I have seen of any show, include elementary school and middle school productions. If my wife had been with me there is no way we would have stayed for the 2nd act. We walked out of Annie Warbucks the year before because of bad singing. This show had reasonable singing, but I found the plot more campy than Evil Dead: The Musical.
I didn't take my only opportunity to see Two by Two. The issue with Danny Kaye was that he broke his leg and rather than step out of the show. The producers wanted him in so he used a wheel chair and I guess felt silly, so started doing more and more obnoxious stunts with the chair.
I also saw an equity production of They're Playing Our Song that left me and my wife flat. It had some particularly funny gaffs. The opening scene has the guy walk on stage and over to his piano. He sits down and hits the keys and nothing, he tries again, nothing. "Oh, I must have the stop on this keys" and glares at the conductor/keyboardist sitting on the side of the stage so everyone can see the entire pit. The guy is drinking from a water bottle and almost does a spit take, caps the water then plays. Later on in the show there is a flute solo, the bass player has taken to doubling on flute. It was the most awful thing I have ever heard, missed 80% of the notes, no tone. With a days practice I am sure I could have learned to play better than that.
