Trying to ID a movie

I just signed up so apologies if this is not the appropriate section.
I'm trying to find out the title of a film I saw probably in the late 80s or early 90s. I remember very little about it so it is difficult to google.
I'm pretty sure it was Australian. It was about kid in his late teens with paralysing anxiety. He had long hair and glasses. His sister or his friend tried to hook him up with a girl but he was like beyond social phobic.
And that's all i remember. Not much to go on, sorry. Does it ring a bell to anyone? Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum!

I love puzzlers like these.

I didn't find your movie, yet, but I found some with the same theme. I realize you weren't looking for suggestions -- but these look good!

Eagle vs. Shark (2007) -- It was a New Zealand film (I haven't seen it myself) but there is a kid in it with long hair and glasses. Not sure if he is as socially awkward as the kid you are describing.

YouTube trailer for it:

An Angel At My Table (1990, New Zealand-Australian-British)

The Forest for the Trees (Der Wald vor lauter Bäumen) (2003, German)

It's none of those but thanks just the same. It's around the same time as An angel at my table couple of years give or take. Much smaller film though, probably was screened at a few festivals.

Do you happen to remember if it was a period piece, or what era/decade it depicted?

I found an Australian website that lists their films by decade or genre. Realizing that you said it may be Australian, although not necessarily. https://aso.gov.au The site includes video clips and the "Curator's Notes" per film are of special interest (they do include spoilers).

The site includes a list of films sorted by decade or by genre.

I found:

Flirting (1990) https://aso.gov.au/titles/features/flirting/

Also I found a history of Canadian television that may be useful: http://www.broadcasting-history.ca/listing_and_histories/television

It’s fine to post here, however you might have more luck if you ran this in the Trivia Section, in the “I Need To Know” subsection. Back on IMDb you could give the scantiest of details and someone would recognize the film.
