in the place of Amy Adams? I don't think her performance is the best of the year but her presence is what made the film great. Like Villeneuve said, she is the soul of the film.
I can't think of any contemporary actress who can evoke that much heart and poignancy.

I think Alicia Vikander could have down it. Potentially a bit young, and possibly a bit to extraordinarily beautiful, though.
And How about Olivia Colman? I'd have loved to have seen her encountering the aliens and she certainly possesses the soul for it.
