Coming of age drama with an old propeller plane

Trying to remember a coming of age drama from late 90s to early 2000s with a little boy who lives in a mansion and maybe the uncle is a pilot with an old propeller plane. I remember two scenes
1) the boy waves at the pilot as he flies away
2) the pilot shows the boy a film with a woman who the boy knows on an old projector

Any help would be much appreciated

It sounds like a lot films, minus the mansion. Kinda sounds like Forever Young from 1992
