SOLVED! identify: Animal horror movie with spiders

Hi folks,
I just thought about a movie of the "animal horror" genre... but I can't remember the title!
The movie was (very probably) made in the U.S., in the 1990s or 2000s; it was set on an island in South East Asia (Philippines? Indonesia?) or somewhere in Polynesia (?).
Usually I prefer the old classics (Them!, Tarantula...) or those from the 1970s or 1980s (Ants aka It Happened at Lakewood Manor, Kingdom of the Spiders, The Swarm, Piranhas,...) but this one had some remarkable scenes, too:
A group of 5-10 people (some military, an entomologist, the daughter of an Air Force Pilot who went missing in just that area, etc.) formed a search party and spent some days on that island. There was a tropical or sub-tropical jungle; and for a while the viewer saw more than the "expedition team", i.e. they were quite near to those nasty spiders on several occasions without knowing it.
One remarkable scene was this: At one point the young entomologist went missing; the others did in fact find him again, BUT he was already dying... he stood in a giant spiderweb, and explained to the others that they could not save him, that it was too late, etc. - he also mentioned that the spider had injected something into his spine "so that I don't feel that much pain"... about half a minute later, blood poured from his mouth and nostrils and he presumably died. Wow!
It turned out that a small number of spiders had started to "change": They became bigger and bigger, and a very special detail of the story (haven't found the same in any other "spider movie") was that they found that the spiders had begun to develop a skeleton, with real bones!! (Which means these nasty mutant creatures had made the transition from insects to vertebrates!)
Early in the movie when nobody was aware of the dangerous beasts lurking in the jungle, there was a scene when the young scientist had absented himself for a moment from the group, seeking a shady place under a palm tree... not knowing that something sat right above him in the tree... what it was, we didn't see either, at that time; but what we saw was some spider's venom dripping down - a thick, white liquid - and "burning" some holes in the brim of his hat (!)... I think when the young man rejoined the group and put the hat on again, he didn't even notice that someone had spoilt it :-)
I think the skeleton of the missing pilot was found on a tree, still hanging in the remains of his parachute... but perhaps I'm just mixing two different movies...
Does that sound familiar to anyone?
Kind regards

Hello CerealKiller,
thank you very much! Didn't expect somebody would identify this one so soon!
What I would like to know - on a scale from 1 to 10 points (1 = don't waste a minute for that crap; 10 = a masterwork, cult movie, must-watch), how high or low would your ranking be?
Kind regards

Sorry, I haven't seen it (or even heard of it until yesterday)... I just did some digging on IMDb :)

Hello,
I would give this movie 4-6 points, at best. It's not really bad, but for sure it's not excellent either. Buy it only if you can get it somewhere at a VERY low price; watch it on a rainy day, on a very slow evening, if there's nothing better you can do... :-)
On the contrary, I would recommend a much older movie (I think, from late 1970s?) - "Kingdom of the Spiders"... has some B-movie elements BUT overall I found it really frightening. AND there's no Disney-esque "Happy End"!
Have a nice week-end!
Andreas
