Aggressively unattractive female Spartans

Why the producers chose these two unpleasant-looking actresses, particularly the ginger one, is beyond me. It's as if the producers are trying to make some point that eludes me. If they wanted believably strong yet decent-looking females they should have gone with Gina Carano or Katee Sackoff.

reply

They needed actresses who would be visually believable to have survived Spartan training against men. Kennedy is 6'3", Culzac 6'1". Carano is 5'8", Sackhoff 5'6"

reply

That makes sense I guess. Though I'm surprised Katee Sackhoff is only 5ft 6in. She looks considerably taller in the films I've seen. Maybe a better replacement for her would be Mackenzie Davis. In Terminator: Dark Fate she looked very tall, easily over 6ft.

reply

Davis is probably way to expensive for the role. She's at film and leading TV series level I believe. The other 2 are probably very unknown and work at scale or slightly above.

reply

If they wanted to make it believable, they wouldn't have included female Spartans at all.

reply

ding ding ding, we have a winner folks

reply

Or just have men that say they identify as women. Boom, tick box ticked.

reply

they needed tough guys.

reply

I was unaware that an important characteristic of a high end, elite soldier was to be attractive.

reply

If you want to increase your audience, it is.

reply

I would rather see a good story than an actor's (or any sex) "good looks" or "smoking hot body." And I don't have an issue with sexual relations on a show, or nude/near nude actors. I just don't believe in casting based solely on looks.

True, may actors over the history of TV/Movies have been reasonably attractive. And many have not and still had powerful and successful careers; often headlining their projects.

It might also be mentioned that people's perception of attractiveness varies considerably. For example, my mother and sister thought/think that Tom Sellick was extremely attractive. My wife likes him as an actor, but thinks he's very plain and would never look at him as attractive.

reply

I agree but the old adage holds true: Sex sells.

reply

Well, you are right there.

reply

So then it's worse because it's a stupid story with butt ugly actresses.

reply

def Gina Carano, she is fit and hot.

reply

I was just thinking that the actress who plays Kai is the poor mans Katee Sackhoff, lol.

reply

She's actually a good choice. She's 6'3"!

reply

Agreed.

reply

She's thiccc mommy! I'd like her to step on me.

reply

Frankly i never really believed that Katee Sackoff could kick a reasonable fit guy butt. At least Gina was actually UFC Fighter. Its not a big deal to me if the spartan women are not attractive. You see women in the real military. Most them don't look like fashion models.

reply

What are you on about? Kate Kennedy looks stunning AND badass.

reply

100%

reply

Most modern Sci-fi and fantasy is stacked with ugly women. Eg. Foundation, Wheel of time, Expanse, Witcher, etc.

reply

Yeah it's all done on purpose.

Social engineering.

reply

Expanse .... Cara Gee and Frankie Adams? I'll grant you Dominique Tipper is not a raving beauty, but they are all above average and fantastic in the series.

reply

Maybe I'm weird but I find even Shoreh Agdashloo strangely attractive. It might have a lot to do with the costumes she wears throughout the series because she looks great every time she's on screen.

reply

She does ... but she is a bit older. She was beautiful when she was younger, and Googling images of her she is quite attractive.

reply

I went to high school with far better looking women.

reply

Hahaha .... who cares?

reply

Enjoy your ugly women in Sci-fi.

reply

I will ... it's a lot better and healthier than you not being able to control your Incel misogyny

reply

Expecting hot women to be on TV = incel misogyny... You people always have new words to call the people you hate.
