Claims the Python money has run out

He places the blame explicitly on a daughter of Terry Gilliam who has been managing the Pythons for the past decade: https://www.thewrap.com/eric-idle-monty-python-money-gone/

Seems they would have noticed years ago she wasn’t doing a good job so why didn’t they replace her?

reply

That's a shame. Seems he thought they'd taken every step to ensure a decent future. I guess from his comment 'But I guess if you put a Gilliam child in as your manager you should not be so surprised. One Gilliam is bad enough. Two can take out any company' that things aren't great between Idle and Terry Gilliam either. I didn't know that.

Idle tweeted earlier today that he was done working with the Pythons, so it's not just Gilliam. So sad to see it end this way.

It's like watching a legendary rock band disintegrate.

reply

He probably has a problem with Gilliam's politics.

reply

Well. I'm not sure Monty Python is aging well. Is this material resonating with new audiences? It's so niche and rooted in British Culture. I myself (American Gen X) never understood half of it. How much money really is there left to shake from that tree?

reply

If that's the case, wonder why none of the other Pythons are complaining about it though. Is it possible the real explanation is that he has dementia? It is bad policy to put affairs into the hands of a relative though.
