We will miss you Red Lobster

Although I never dined there, I recall how popular the restaurants were only a few decades ago. Speaking of seafood, only a few days, ago, I craved some fried scallops, I have not had that in ages, the last time was in the early 90's. I have also consumed lobster bisque, and lobster egg rolls, but never boiled lobster, although I liked boiled crab in my youth.

Has anyone ever ate there, or knew someone who was a former employee?

Most scallops are imitation swordfish. I learned last night from my hibachi chef. Real scallops are bigger and more expensive

Eaten at Red Lobster many times over 30 plus years. I find it interesting that the chain hit the wall the minute they pulled down all the fun nautical themed decor. Went just recently on my last birthday, mostly for nostalgia, and was not disappointed by one of the worst dining experiences of my life. My food was great but everything else was a disaster. I swear our server was a cook or dish person. There was only 4 tables seated and somehow there was still a 40 minute wait. We got our biscuits which were never refilled. Everybody else's orders got messed up. The manager took over at one point but that didn't help anything, she was incompetent too. And when the check came everything was rang up wrong as well. But the worst thing about the whole deal was not a single table had been bussed the entire day. Nor was our table bussed while eating. We were sitting in just an absolute chamber of filth. The atmosphere was simply revolting. And that lobster tank you see when walking in the front door hasn't been cleaned in about ten years. They can't shut that hell hole down fast enough. It's funny, they just spent a ton of money remodeling the outside to make it look inviting, but they didn't invest a single dollar on the staff. The lobsters and other portions were much smaller than what used to be, and the price very much higher. Oh, and the best dish they have, the Bar Harbor Bake, has been ass for a few years now too. I swear they're just microwaving that shit now. The butter isn't even butter anymore.

Wow, that location really went down hill!

The Outback Steakhouse next door is just as bad. And don't even get me started on the Applebees or Chilis. The only chain restaurant with any standards left in this town is Cracker Barrel. They've been dropping like flies too. Had a dozen shut down the last few years, including the Golden Coral which was also horrible. I suspect those mentioned aren't long for this world. Since I moved here I said the main problem with this town is it isn't anywhere near an interstate. Just doesn't get the thru-traffic necessary to support a strip of chain restaurants.

What state do you live in? I liked Golden Corral, although it has been years since I ate there in Gurnee, IL in the early 2000's. I ate at Chili's once during the recession, but I have never been to Applebee's. It is sad hearing that famous eateries of your youth are facing hardships, but that is the business world, always ups and downs.

That really is too bad. I've been dining out less and less these days. Been to my local Outback a couple of times, but at least three years ago, and I enjoyed it. I really do (or, at least, did) love chain restaurants.

Remember Old Country Buffet, the last time I went was in 2010, the food was pretty good.

Never did try them. I have also liked Applebee's, TGI Friday's, Uno's Pizza, and a few more. I have a bit of nostalgia for Planet Hollywood and Rainforest Cafe. Can't recall if I ever ate at Olive Garden. There is a Cheesecake Factory at my local mall and I keep meaning to eat there, I like the menu and the space. Reno just got its first Cracker Barrel, and I'll to check it out as well.

I could dine at Olive Garden every day for the lunch special. All you can eat salad, 3-4 different soups & breadsticks. I wish we could get one in Saint Cloud, FL.

Now I have to go. We have one here in Reno.

I love the Minestrone. You don’t have to order the same soup for refills. This gives you the chance to sample all flavors. I think it’s 4.

This may be an older menu with older prices. Check your area.

Now I am really hungry!
They don't have my favorite, linguini with white clam sauce, but that's ok, there's plenty of stuff I crave

Not all restaurants have closed. They have closed a few stores in Kansas City but some remain open. I wonder about Applebee's as I've read things they are not doing well financially either.

If Red Lobster goes completely bankrupt I wonder if its Cheddar Biscuit recipe will get sold off to some other company.

I really wouldn't miss Red Lobster at all.

This is the first thing I think of when I hear Red Lobster. This happened in my community and I’ve been told about it since I was a kid.

I've never been there, but I live in Maine, so if I want lobster or other seafood, there are plenty of places to get it. It only takes an hour to drive to Belfast for example. There are restaurants there that are directly on the waterfront; fishing vessels dock close enough to unload their catch directly from the boat into the restaurant (I've seen them do it), so if you time it right you can be eating something that just came off the boat a few minutes prior. For example:

Wow, I bet it is a lot cheaper as well. My elders stated the same thing about shrimp, crawfish, and other seafood in LA.

The Red Lobster by me is still open, but the one in Crestwood MO about 10 minutes away closed and it was there for like 40 Years.. Outback Steakhouse is also on the chopping block and I have one of those by me as well that I order take out from quite often like I own stock in the place..
