The latest casting news on this remake made me feel betrayed as they had promised to cast real native Puertorricans as the leading iconic characters of Maria and Anita but instead they opted to choose a New Jersey Colombian American who is already overrated as a belter at her own high school as Maria and another American as Anita! To make things any worse, the only young Puertorrican girl in this cast is Ana Isabelle as the thankless insignificant role of Rosalia! Who else thinks this remake deserves the hate and boycott in the level of The Last Jedi and Captain Marvel??

I admit to having an intense dislike for re-makes/re-boots of older classic films, generally, which is why I'm planning on boycotting the re-make of the 1961 film version of "West Side Story"--inotherwords, not going to see it when it hits the movie theatres sometime next year.

Re-makes/re-boots of older classic films generally come out rather dreadful, anyhow, and I don't see Steve Spielberg's upcoming re-boot of the film "West Side Story" as being any exception to that.

I am not a big fan of remakes of the classics, since they always mess up the dynamics by twisting everything to fit today's over-sensitive sensibilities.

It will be all hip hop sounding like Hamilton. Just you wait and see. It is going to be awful.

Did you also boycott Selena when they cast a Puerto Rican actress instead of a Mexican?
Just saying because the main reason they cast her was that she could sing and dance which is what this role calls for as well.
