Was anyone else disappointed at the Barbie and Ken dynamic? (spoilers)

I thought that Barbie and Ken really were going to be boyfriend and girlfriend. Even if they didn't end up together in the end, I thought we were going to see them in a relationship like the dolls were. But instead, it was just Ken pursuing Barbie and Barbie brushing him off. Even when they were in the real world together, I thought they were going to act like a team. But instead, he was just an accessory. Aside from the dance scenes at the end, I was surprised that Ryan Gosling was happy playing a role like this.

Yes, I would have preferred to see Barbie and Ken as a couple.

They established that Ken was not even in friend zone. He was just "person Barbie knew". That why she was cold and distant toward him.

She even left him in real world when she was about to return. She was like: "But what about Ken?" when those Matel suits were about to put her in a box. And they were like: "Nobody cares about Ken!" And she was: "Ok" and was about to proceed without him.

Its kinda tragic. For her Ken was just nobody. She was very selfish and didnt care about anyone but herself.

If we learned one thing from Feminism, it's that women don't need men.

Greta Gerwig is a huge hypocrite about this. She's married to a [very week, stupid, sycophantic] man, and yet seems to despise showing healthy, heterosexual relationships on film. What's the matter Greta? Didn't want to upset the velvet mafia breathing down your neck? Did the sight of straight people in love offend them?

CALM DOWN,WEIRDO.

Ken was always Barbie's fashion accessory. Go watch the old TV commercials.

Not disappointed at all. That’s the whole point. Ken was only created for Barbie. So, that’s the dynamic. She had other choices - 3 other ones (and they were not named Ken) - they are not in the movie. Barbie was the celebration. Not Barbie looking for a man or being the half of a couple. It’s not the prince looking for the princess; it’s the girl having the world at her feet with great shoes, hair, and clothes.

Gosling loves roles like this. Just check out his “papyrus” skit on SNL

And the point of the film was showing how he is just an accessory to Barbie

By breaking free of Barbie, Ken mirrors how Gosling breaks free of his romantic lead typecasting

If they wind up together, he’s still just Barbie’s accessory, which actually plays into the anti-male message the right wingers are all whining about
