I liked it better than Die Hard

And I thought Mr. Joshua was a better villain than Hans Gruber.

There I said it.

"I really wish Gia and Claire had became Tanner" - Honeybeefine

reply

i enjoy both but Die Hard bit more cause of Hans Gruber actually !

reply

Die Hard is still a good film, however I felt that Lethal Weapon had a greater sense of danger and suspense and I just found the two lead characters more likable than McClane.

reply

It made me laugh more despite the darker tone and Mel Gibson having less experience with comedy than Bruce Willis.

reply

I don't see the comparison. One is a buddy cop movie where they in walk the streets of California trying to stop drug smugglers. The other is about a cop who tries to stop terrorists in a building at a Christmas party.

reply

They both came out around the same time, they both have some of the same cast members, they both have a score by Michael Kamen and they sound similar, they are both fairly down to Earth action films (relatively speaking) with some comic relief through in that most people seem to enjoy, they are both set at Christmas and they are both considered to be 2 of the greatest action films ever.

reply

Some of the same cast members? I don't recall any. Michael Kamen was a composer on one and the music producer on the other. I actually find the score in Lethal Weapon kind of boring. The Christmas setting for Lethal Weapon is almost forgettable.

reply

The guy who played Endo, the woman who played the psychiatrist and the guy who played the cop who told Murtaugh about Amanda’s pills being poisoned were all in Die Hard

reply

Oh, yeah the psychiatrist. I totally forgot about her.

reply

they are to different to me to be compare.

i think i prefer die hard as it have better action and excite.

reply

The two best Christmas movies ever made!!!! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

reply

They're both great, but I have to give the edge to Die hard solely because it basically became it's own genre and spawned too many ripoffs to name.

Speed - Cop does a Die Hard on a bus
Under Siege - A fat cook does a Die Hard on a boat
CliffHanger - Rocky does a Die Hard on a mountain
Sudden Death - Van DCamme does a Die Hard at a hockey game
Air Force One - The president does a Die hard on a plane
Con Air - A prisoner/Green Beret does a die hard on a different plane
White house Down/Olympus has fallen - Some Secret service agent does a die hard in the Oval
Snakes on a Plane - Die hard on a plane where Hans Gruber is played by a snake

The list goes on.

reply

Err... no.
Rambo came out way earlier and that was the original that led to spinoffs, including die-hard

reply

Eh, Rambo wasn't really a Die hard type situation. There were no hostages, no crime to stop(Rambo was technically the only criminal in the movie), and the movie is way too poignant given the themes of PTSD and the true cost off war.

reply

well , theres so many "Hero fights mainly alone against a bunch of bad guys" that you can hardly say Die Hard invented it.

Theres probably only "Magnificent 7" and "Expendables" where thats not happening!

reply

Die Hard was inspired from a novel, so there goes the originality. But I do consider it influential. And Speed was a brilliant homage to DH. It was truly 'Die Hard in a bus'. DH for me is the 2nd best movie of the 80s, just after Raiders.
Lethal Weapon 2 is my favourite of THAT franchise. 'Diplomatic Immunity!', lol. As an aside, I was shocked to know recently, that Joss Ackland is still alive to this day.

reply

Riggs' suicide attempt is better than anything in Die Hard.

reply

I don't agree, but I'm glad you enjoy it so much. I prefer diehard as I see it as a better focused film. That being said, Lethal Weapon is not far behind. I disagree with the OP. Mr. Joshua was a great henchman, but Gruber had better dialogue and style. Mr. Joshua would kick Karl's butt any day though.

reply

both film are good and die hard edge it but both film are too serious for 80s action standards.

i have to be in right moods to watch both this films but i can watch any 80s arnie or sly movie once a week and never be bored.
