More like humans than chipmunks

Didn't the Chipmunks (Alvin, Simon, and Theodore) look more like humans than chipmunks? The Chipettes (Brittany, Jeanette, and Eleanor) seemed so as well. To be anatomically correct they didn't have a tail like actual chipmunks do and they stood upright meaning they were bipedal and they didn't seem to show off any fur. Now I know the series explained that they were chipmunks but they just didn't meet anatomical consistencies.

Yes, in the reality in which the series is set, chipmunks are humanoid beings. Not uncommon in a cartoon.

What I found darkly off-putting is that they are still treated like animals, suggesting a sort of Chipmunk inequality. Dave originally found Alvin and his brothers living in woods like wild animals, and the Chipettes, despite attending a human school, live in a tree out in the wild.

There was also an episode where someone tries to feed Alvin and co. to a snake at the zoo, as though it's perfectly legal to treat them like any other rodent, despite their being equal in intelligence and communication to human beings. Really kind of strange.

Ya it was really surprising and slightly concerning. I remember in one episode Dave reported the boys as missing and the police didn't do anything since they flat out said "they aren't human" or something along those lines.

Have you ever seen a mouse that looks like Mickey? Better yet, have you ever seen a cartoon?

reply

I have saw Mickey but at least he has a tail which all mice do have.

reply

Yep. I saw them more as deeply tanned human boys and girls than actual chipmunks, it made it even more beliveable when they were given eye colours

Those three are nothing like the originals which did have fur and looked like animals. I'm not even sure what is the point anymore. They're little boys, not rodents.

Here are the originals:

The originals?

That pic you posted is from the 2000s live-action movies, this forum is for the Chipmunks TV show that came out before then in 1983 and before that was 'The Alvin Show' from the 1960s and they looked like this.

This album was released in 1958:

Fine, representations went back and forth. But they started out as furry animals which look nothing like the 1983 human characters.
