I think having one or two tattoos are OK, such as hearts, butterflies, etc. But get them with common sense, hence don't get them on your hands, face, or neck. Many corporations are still conservative, and don't want applicants with rainbow colored hair, and looking like a carnival worker with multiple tattoes. Despite their qualifications.

Gosh I hate tattoos! I know they are legal, but they look so stupid. I know a lot of teen age girls who have them and I always want to ask them why they would do something so dumb to their bodies.
I read a book by Peter Falk (aka Columbo). He wrote about his movie and TV roles and the people he worked with. He tells a story about Truman Capote who was in the film "Mmurder by Death" with him.
Capote had just finished doing interviews at San Quentin. Falk asked him if there was anything that was universal among the inmates. You would think, drugs, broken homes, child abuse,etc.
But he said that the one thing they ALL had in common was tattoos! There was a time when people didn't strive so hard to emulate the dregs of society. Not now.
All three of my older siblings (two deceased) have tattoos. Several of my nieces & nephews as well.
share My son has a few tattoos. But there's nothing I can do about it. Oh well. At least his big tattoo is on his leg and he wears long pants, so you can't see it. He had one on his hand.
One time though I was glad he had that tattoo on his hand. For a while he was thinking about applying to the State Police. I don't know if states have different rules, but here the State Police cannot have any visible tattoos. So he couldn't apply. I was relieved!

Remember when we painted our faces to scare the enemy in battle? Some of my fellow shieldmaidens even chewed that red root that stains your teeth, so they looked like they'd tasted "blood," even though we prefer the real stuff to stain our weapons and armor instead. I didn't do it because it takes weeks to get out of your teeth afterwards, if you survive the battle.
Did you get tats to cover every kill you made? Or to honor the gods? I haven't figured out which one to do yet, to be honest.

I remember in CMA school having a number of fellow students and even a few teachers with tattoos. It made me realize one reason these girls were here was because they were basically blue-collar women or girls straight out of high school who had managed to work their way up a step in the world to improve their situation. Sadly, many of them are from the lower economic classes, where tats are normal.
I found it particularly interesting how the dress code for a Clinical Medical Assistant clearly states that all tattoos should be covered up (if possible), no facial piercings, hair should not be dyed in any unnatural colors, and only stud earrings (in the earlobes) should be worn. I looked at this, and at my fellow students, and wondered just how all the punk/goth girls and crazier students handled this, considering this describes a number of features you see among the different socioeconomic classes of students that come through. Although to be fair, some of them have more issues not dropping F-bombs and cussing their heads off unconsciously while working, than they do with appearance.
We were told that the reason for this dress code is that many of our patients would be from older generations that look down on tattoos, facial piercings, and wildly dyed hair. The cussing and swearing can get you reprimanded or fired, due to it being unprofessional and some CMA's work at pediatric clinics, where the parents would not like hearing that kind of talk in front of their kids.
I think not having any tattoos in 2024 is a statement in itself. Im glad I'm not a conformist.
shareI have none and I am in my late 30s. I don't agree with the TC though. My Grandpa had a tattoo and he was in both the army (in the 1930s) and the Navy (durring World War 2). He later became a teacher. I have a friend with some and she's a midwife. So it's not just criminals who have one.
