The Western and its numerous subgenres enjoyed popularity prior to the 1980s, but its stock has since fallen, possibly to the point of no return.
You have a lot of negative posts TMC. I admire the sheet number of your contributions but most of your posts since I arrive three years ago are anti-movie / anti-actor. It’s almost like you really dislike the movie industry. On your question, I think Sci-Fi is the modern Western since the late 70’s so, I think the genre and it’s stories and values are alive and well. I also looked at Wikipedia and it appears there have been something like 100 traditional Western movies since 2000 (not all from Hollywood though)
