Well-said Wanderer. Thank you! Oh, so every time 2 words sound the same, that immediately becomes a joke? I agree that it can be funny when people get similar-sounding words confused, but it never happens in this movie. So there is no joke to be had. Can we at least agree on that? Agreed Lord Rake. It's like if you had a kid who thought that there was a monster in the closet, and so you actually put one in there to prove him wrong. Make that make sense. If there isn't any more to this movie than a silly role-play exercise for a delusional patient that would obviously have the opposite effect than what they claim it would (and that's exactly what happened), then we don't have a whole lot to work with. And it's impossible for us to know what parts of it really happened. You might as well dismiss everything that we just saw as the delusions of a mad-man. Watching paint dry would be more appealing--At least you know it's really happening. Every scene gets more and more ridiculous, and then we get to the lighthouse, and just when you thought it couldn't get any worse, they prove us wrong and out-do themselves. I was like "We're supposed to believe this nonsense? Anagrams? You have got to be kidding me". If this is supposed to be some profound movie about the tragedy of mental illness, it fails miserably. Teddy seems perfectly normal for most of the movie, and then he does get pretty crazy at the end, but who wouldn't after all of the ridiculous scenarios that he was put through? It's like everybody in the movie was trying to drive him insane, not bring him back to sanity. I know that the field of psychiatry was new back in the '50s and that they didn't know what they were doing, but I'm sure they could have done better than that. Nah, it wasn't Mean Girls. It was TMC-4! I dunno. Perhaps you can explain why it's up. It's good to be the producer-director! And what would he do about the panties? What would you recommend? Edward? Andy? Yeah, Lindsay was perfect for the role. Being a child actor, she said that she never quite felt like she fit in with the other girls when she was at school. And I agree that she did amazing. It's just too bad that it was all downhill from there. Wow, that was an interesting read. It took me about as long to read it as it took to watch that video. And I don't know if you've had a chance to watch the video I've linked yet, but I found it interesting that Lehane didn't take inspiration to write this novel from Sybil or The Three Faces of Eve or anything to do with multiple personalities, but instead from The Patriot Act (which gave the government the right to spy on us) and The Manchurian Candidate (about brainwashing). So when I think about the movie and how Cawley would constantly brag about knowing everything that Teddy said and did, and how he and Sheehan would blatantly lie to Teddy for the sole purpose of confusing him and messing up his perception of reality, it sure seems a lot more about control and brainwashing to me. Regarding the topic at hand, at the beginning of the movie when they were showing Teddy pictures of Rachel Solando, if you look closely, you'll see that there are pictures of both nurse Rachel and cave-lady Rachel. How could they have produced a picture of someone who isn't real (as Cawley claimed at the end)? This proves that she is real and that she is part of the brainwashing-team (as you have already pointed out). Thanks for your support Mecha. You're a good listener and a true friend! Good work Lucia. Where are you finding this reading by the way? You might be interested in this interview with the writer of the novel (Dennis Lehane)... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wIPx1KWyXUU I never liked the "Teddy is crazy" story-line simply because I hated the doctors and hoped that they were wrong. They were obviously messing with Teddy the whole time, even if they did have his best intentions in mind (which I seriously doubt). I didn't care if Teddy was really crazy the whole time or not, but one thing I knew for sure... Those doctors weren't any better off. They are definitely the worst psychiatrists I have ever seen--Giving the "most-dangerous" patient on the island free reign of the entire place in the hopes that it would get him to reality? Who would do that? So I'm with Lucia and FZane here... If there isn't an alternate explanation (and it turns out there are tons), then this movie sucks, and it isn't worth one more second of thought. So I watched this YouTube video, and yeah, I think he's onto something there (even if it doesn't all make sense). You mean Renee Rapp? Yeah, she's way too unbelievably huge to be Queen Bee. She's maybe a legend in her own mind, but nobody in school is going to envy her. Excellent responses FC31 and Blue. Thanks for your input. I expected to get Janis's side of the story at some point in the film, and I was surprised when it never happened. And with the way that Janis freaked out over Cady missing her art-show, it does give some credibility to Regina's side of the story. I agree about the extra-large Queen Bee, but what do you have against dark-skinned Indian girls? Who said anything about "grammer"? I was trying to learn a new word, and you won't help me. Maybe I will "keel" myself (once I find out what that word means). No, I'm happy for you. It's always good to learn new words. PS: What's a "douchbeg"? Hey, someone learned a new word today. Good for you!
