As much as I appreciate you voicing your redress. Please understand these episode are and have to be heavily edited. They only have 6 minutes to tell the story. On that particular scene what you dont see is the gun and meth pipe on the console. What you didnt hear was I was on the original stolen vehicle report three days earlier. If you re watch the episode there are several indicators of noncompliance including him only placing one hand on the vehicle while looking back smiling. My closest back up was 20 minutes away running priority 1. From the time I called out one at gun point to one in custody about 11 and a half minutes elapsed the majority of that was a ground fight that was cut from the segment. The video also does show a great size comparison this gentleman's arms were bigger than my thighs. The reason for the prompt action of trying to detain him was warranted due to me being a one man unit with no back up with two civilians on my scene that I was responsible for the safety of. I was not able to clear the vehicle prior to the gentleman waking up and had no idea if there was anyone in the backseat. This could've went south really fast for both him and me. Please know that I got into law enforcement to be the change I wanted to see. I grew up on the east side of houston where I was one of 3 white kids from elementary all the way through high school. I won the National Minority Leadership award (non law enforcement) two years in a row for my work in advocacy for minorities. Even while a police officer I've attended and support BLM rallies and marches. I actually am really calm in stressful situations. I have been in far worse situations while on Active Duty deployments in the military. If I wasn't I would've been out of control and dispatch would not be able to understand me. Notice my verbal commands were loud and agressive but my radio communication was clear calm and collected. It is unfortunate that we snap to quick judgements without the facts. View all replies >
