The 90’s was the best era for films, so being ‘a film of its time’ only makes it even better.
Films today are dogshit, no way would Hollywood even consider making a quality thriller like this today, the genre is practically dead.

Yeah it’s really good. This film must be nightmare fuel for young mothers - from sexually inappropriate gynaecology to a ‘nanny’ who secretly breastfeeds your child and plots to destroy your family. As a guy even I was ‘ewww!’
Performances and direction are great, it has a 7/10 script and just needed a bit of extra polish, then it could have been a genre classic. The husband was too weedy and ineffectual, and the ending battle needed more callbacks (Misery is a masterclass in psycho-bitch cinema, notice how the final fight brings back numerous elements we’ve seen along the way - the match, the typewriter, the pig - it all makes it feel of-a-piece) this was a bit scattered.
Also, the way hell-nanny is finally exposed was way too contrived.
Still, it really works as a domestic psycho thriller, and Ernie Hudson plays possibly his most loveable character - a retarded groundskeeper with a heart of gold.
