I watched Dead & Deader, and it was indeed entertaining, but doesn't have the scene I remember. I am trying to acquire Deathdream. Sounds promising !
The movie you suggest certainly has resemblances in the plot, but I don't think it is the one. I will try and get a copy though.

I am on the case. Second-hand copies of the 1983 DVD are shockingly expensive but I can get the Italian DVD release for a reasonable price.
Oh I apologise. The DVD I obtained was of a 2014 remake with the same title. How I wish they wouldn't do that.
