Yes, that scene was a standout, especially knowing that when Woodward accidentally called Dahlberg MacGregor, it was an actual flub by Redford. But he continued acting and the flub was left in. My general opinion of Redford as an actor is that he's ok, but often times self-conscious and guarded. He doesn't seem to fully embody a given character the way Paul Newman did. It's usually Redford being Redford. He succeeded in AtPM partly because his personality is very similar to Woodward's. Reserved, serious and guarded. I'd have to wait to see it before I pass judgement, but I tend to think your first option is correct. This post didn't age well. Three Days of the Condor is one of my favorite films, in large part because of Max Von Sydow. I also seem to have an affection for movies set during winter. The scene with Condor and Joubert outside after the Atwwod killing is my favorite. So calm and cold. All valid nits. That's the problem with watching a favorite movie so many times. After a while the flaws really bother you and you can't watch it any more. This happened to me with All The President's Men. Regarding Steve McQueen in this film: His appearance always struck me as anachronistic. He looks like he just arrived on set from 1960's Malibu. View all replies >
