Erin died one year to the day after Katie disappeared. There had just been a news story about Katie on TV that day. Maybe the photo is of John Ross with Katie....and Erin has been blackmailing him with that since Katie disappeared, but decided to threaten him with exposure on that anniversary day. I think John was in on, or a ringleader of, some kind of teen sex trade going on. He (or someone else) is the link between the two cases. It could be that Ryan saw his Dad with KATIE and has been carrying that around for a year now, and now knows that his dad might be "doing it again." Not sure of my confidence in these ideas. But just wheels turning. Excellent thought that Kevin may have stolen and sold his grandfather's gun. I would think Mare would have sorely missed it and would have immediately thought of that upon hearing the. Ballistics results. I was wondering if Richard is actually an undercover PI, like the one who actually solved Colin's case. But I can't think what case he'd have been hired to solve, or who would have hired him. I was thinking re Kevin possibly not dying by suicide...that an addict could easily be overdosed and then hanged...and no one would think twice about the drugs being shown to be in their system at autopsy. Mare said "a neighbor" called telling her Kevin was seen around their home...but who was this neighbor? Mrs. Carroll? Maybe that is what started Betty on her hypervigilant watch for prowlers. Or maybe the neighbor was part of a murder of Kevin plot, and played a part of the staged suicide scenario, calling to get the body found. I think Billy has been a fall guy for John his entire life. He said that someone needs to hold John accountable for once. He may even have been a victim of incestuous abuse by John, as I still believe Ryan is. There is a very dark secret in the Ross family, and I believe Lori agreed to misdirect Mare after Billy on purpose, "to protect the family," just as Jess has, up to now, been taking orders from Dylan on feeding the cops bad info. I think Lori now knows the truth, and that Billy isn't it. But something about seeing Billy pay for any crime that may come out, is preferable to the truth she now knows being exposed. Still not sure that family incest or even Erin's murder is big enough of a secret to cause Lori to deliberately set up Billy, and Billy to be willing to effectively end his life of freedom to protect it. I can't see either of them doing these things just to protect John. Perhaps the "family " is code for a pedophile ring, drug operation, etc. That the Rosses have been protecting for a long time. I wonder if the murder weapon is Mare's father's gun. I also wonder if Richard is in the story as a vehicle for subliminal clues for us. His name is Richard Ryan...so maybe Ryan should be looked at more closely. His book is called "May's Landing" and we know the family reunion was at a lake. On May 29. I still think Kevin is the key to solving all the mysteries. The fact that John didn't react only makes him seem like he wasn't surprised, like Erin's death was something he already knew. Why was Kenny so violent with John at hearing the news, saying "get the f away from me," etc. He didn't react in Billy's direction but in John's. I can't figure out what could possibly be in Jess' photo that would prove who killed Erin. Or wht Dylan would be in any danger if anyone saw what Erin was hiding. Why would he care? I question Kevin's suicide. No one saw him do it. I wonder if he was silenced. If he did kill himself, I bet there is a suicide note somewhere. In any case. I believe Kevin holds the key to everything that's going on. This is the theme of the show, that Mare cannot go forward without confronting Kevin's death head-on. I think there is more to this theme than grief counseling. No one has been in the attic since Kevin was found dead. If Mare confronts her grief and ventures up to the attic to face her pain, perhaps Kevin left something up there (his own journal, a photo, a suicide note, etc.) that will tie it all together. He has clearly been trying to tell Mare something...or her repressed subconscious has...throughout the show. Kevin, imo, holds the key. The last part of Siobhan's docu video right before she gets wasted and upset...is Kevin holding a guitar and saying "this is for the first girl who broke my heart." Who would that girl be? Erin??? Were Dylan, Jess and the other kid all molested (by John?) and pushed into prostitution? Were Katie and the other girls too, and just happened that 3 of them were abducted by the attic guy in the process? Was John, or someone else, a pimp of teenagers and killed Erin for keeping money from him? I still think Ryan knows about more than an affair. I think Lori might too. One thing of note is that Moira has red hair. And so does DJ. Leads me to think John is DJ's father. But part of me still thinks Kevin was. Maybe John had to kill Kevin for finding out something from Erin? We don't know who killed Erin. But it wasn't Billy. Billy has been covering for John for a long, long time. Either John killed her or needs her death to stay quiet for a much darker reason. I do think either Kevin or Erin's dad is DJ's father. Carrie may be the killer. But...what relationship to Erin would she have had? If she had the baby because Kevin cheated on Carrie with her...Kevin is gone and Erin is still the baby's mom...so what is Carrie's motive. What would she stand to gain from Erin dying? I don't see it. I noticed that Zabel was shot in the forehead in the same spot as Erin...I think that is a hint that, while I don't think the dead kidnapper is Erin's killer, I do think the two murders are still connected in some way. May 29, 2017 sounds like Memorial Day. Who do we remember on Memorial Day? Those who have died. I think that must be the date of Erin's mother's death. The only reason I can think of for Erin to hide it is if John? was having an affair with her mother and they both mourned together. It may well be that John is Erin's father, that DJ is his grandson, and that is why he's willing to raise him?? It could br that Billy, the father's cousin, had been giving Erin money. However, the deacon said that while in his car, Erin got a text that made her "hysterical" and insisted on going to the other park. I can't think of anything that would make her hysterical other than someone threatening to hurt her baby if she didn't go meet them. Which would point to Dylan or Brianna, since the baby was with them/their parents at the time. This could have been the case, maybe she met up with them, and either during or after that meeting the real killer showed up. I want to know 1) who drove Erin's body back to the site she was found, why haven't a bunch of car trunks been searched? 2) what possible purpose could there have been for undressing her, if sexual assault was not the motive? If just humiliation, who would want to humiliate her in that particular way? Her father perhaps? Thinking of her as a little hussy? I think her father may have sexually abused Erin and I've thought he might even be her baby's father. He kept saying "HIS son. Not mine!" because he needed it to be Dylan who got her pregnant?? He did lay in the same spot and position as his daughter's body after he shot Dylan. And 3) why no bullet in the body? Someone removed it? Their investigation showed no registered firearms other than Erin's father....but all cops have guns too, which brings me back to my Mare theory. She certainly knew right where to look for ricochet marks and bullet holes in the trees. 4) where are Erin's clothes? 5) May 29, 2017 on the necklace...the day her mother died? A previous baby no one knew about who died? Drew's birthday and maybe Kevin gave the necklace to Erin? Mare would have recognized Drew's birthday instantly...did she, and we just haven't been told yet? So many delicious mysteries. I think all of your thoughts are quite strong! I will check out your other thread! Just a note, you asked why Becca vomited if it was just pot....all I know is that her friends said she had "had a lot of edibles" just before that. Never tried those so don't know, but seems like anything eaten could make one vomit. :) A couple responses: First, I do agree my ideas are "out there," and no, I don't as yet see Mare as "a person who would do" the things I hypothesized about. 2, I don't see Becca as being any kind of killer. An addict? A pothead. To me those are 2 different things. She may be overindulging lately, and turning away from, Siobhan, because she knows more than we know she knows. 3, I don't see Kevin as a rapist, or even as a bad person. I have former and current addicts in my family, and I know that under the addiction they are still, somewhere, the kind, loving, goodhearted people they used to be. I think if Mare did kill her son, it might have been either in self-defense (he does physically attack her in her flashbacks) or out of mercy, or out of concern for Drew. The families of addicts, man...I was the one my sister came to about her addiction...while I would never be the killing type...I watched my father react in visceral anxiety every time the phone rang. For years. Just dreading that OD call. Thankfully my sister was much stronger than I would have bern and did the hard work of recovery, and is 12 years clean. But my point is that when you're an addict, the addiction takes over, and sometimes one has to protect oneself from the addiction that presents, not from the person we love. 4, Siobhan very well may be bisexual, and quick to abandon relationships, but I see her as merely knowing more than she is telling, rather than as a killer. And mark my words, she knows something, and is hiding it. This was evident from her lip biting and head ducking during Mare's confrontation of Frank about his relationship with Erin. More tomorrow, gotta hit the hay. But I'm totally obsessed with this show, and these characters! This is really out there, but. I do think Kevin is Erin's baby's father. The child is one year old, plus 9 pregnancy months = 21 months. Mare said her son killed himself and said "it'll be 2 years in..." and then I don't remember how far away from 2 years she said. But 2 years is 24 months, and it hasn't been the full 2 years, so if Kevin died 21 months ago or less, he could have gotten Erin pregnant just before he died, possibly never even knowing it. It would explain Frank's helping Erin. The theory that I have that's really out there is...what if Kevin only appeared to have killed himself...but in reality...MARE killed him??? Remember the scene with her friend Beth when she confides that her heroin-addict brother was "ruining their marriage" and that sometimes she wishes he would just go ahead and die?? Perhaps Mare killed him and made it look like suicide. It would explain her obessive attachment to Drew, and also the fact that she is the only one in the family who will not talk about her son. Hell maybe her dad didn't kill himself either, maybe she did. Erin? Could Mare have killed Erin? She saw her son's ghost right before she got the call. The night of the murder, she was seen at the basketball ceremony and at the bar with Richard. We saw her go home with Richard, then next we see she is coming home and her mother points out it is 3:30 am. Erin was killed around 2. We don't know how long Mare was unaccounted for between leaving Richard's and getting home. I don't know what possible motive she could have, but Zabel did say his earlier case was solved by a missing hour in someone's alibi. My next best guess would be that Carrie killed Erin, as theorized earlier. So that would mean that Frank, Carrie, possibly John, possibly Jess, Siobhan, the deacon, and Billy could all know Kevin is the father, with only Mare not knowing. That theme of everyone being in on something except Mare is heavily underlined in this show many times. Just thinking outside the box. View all replies >
