Indeed he was an unpleasant man. But he did save Britain from the Nazis when Chamberlain's allies in government in appeasement wanted to sue for peace. And that counts a long way, for me. An imperfect man, but still a hero in that. I studied Churchill; the tube scene in the film was of course fictional, but he did, in fact, in the early stages of the war, make a habit of disappearing from time to time, to discuss the state of things with people whom he never normally come into contact. Good film; he was an imperfect man, of course, and not a particularly nice one, I think, with some vile views on race amongst other things. But he lead the country brilliantly at a time of direst need; were Halifax to have been leader, mainland Europe would possibly still be under the yoke of the Germans. Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but there's no need to be rude about expressing yours. I disagree; doesn't make me a film snob or anything else. What's wrong with disagreeing but remaining courteous? It's a building. All too often in action films, buildings (or any other structure) that has nothing explosive in them blow up like they were full of petrol. Which they often are, to make the explosion better. The only explosive thing in that building was the explosives themselves. And they were small. Can't agree. What I love about Nolan is that he tries to use green screens and CGI as little as possible. Any other director would have CGI'd a 747 crashing into a building, but no, that's exactly what he did. His films seem real, tangible, compared to most of the CGI dross coming out of Hollywood. I would firmly disagree. He's very watchable and shines in this. IMO. That's both risible and truly pathetic. Please, never reproduce. View all replies >
