In the 1980s and 1990s I would listen to THOSE WERE THE DAYS. Host Chuck Schaeden would replay golden age radio programs and LASSIE was one of them. Each week she would portray a different breed of dog in a new story. Interesting. When LASSIE went into syndication, the Miller years were called JEFF'S COLLIE. Later, when the Martin years went into syndication it was titled TIMMY AND LASSIE. Is everything racist? Do you think Roy Campanella was offended when he saw this? Team names are chosen to show honor or respect. Who names something they don't respect? Sometimes a team name is just a team name. Oh come on! Lassie gets to keep Star, but you never see the pony again. We just watched that episode on youtube The name of the episode was CRACKER JACK season 7 episode 24. Some simple folk the Yochims from the east stop at the farm on the way to California (James Griffith and Ellen Corby). The boy runs off when his folks say they can't afford to keep the big old dog they have. Unfortunately the dog gets shot during deer hunting season. A very sad episode. The visitors continue on their way to California with the promise of one of Lassie's next litter (Lassie just had a litter in the previous episode). The following season (season 8 episode 15) called A YOCHIM CHRISTMAS Ellen Corby and her son return to the farm on the trip back east. Gunsmoke went into syndication as MARSHALL DILLON. I always imagine it was in the midwest somewhere. Perhaps it is central Illinois. In one episode the Millers find a rare bird on the property and Doc Weaver says they are rarely found east of the Rockies (so it isn't west). Another episode Timmy finds a greyhound and it is clear there is no dog racing in their state but in the next state 100 miles away (there was dog racing in Iowa). However it could be southern Minnesota, Nebraska, or Kansas. Jeff was bitten by a rattle snake in the first season so it was in the southern part of the state. Thanks for the information. We have been watching the episodes in order over the last months. I remember watching the program when it originally aired. I was a boy and we spent Sundays visiting my mother's parents on the south side of Chicago. We always had time for LASSIE. I loved the Miller years but could not get into the Martin years. We enjoy watching them now. View all replies >
