This movie has it's moments, but its not that good. Carpenter's weaker films from his strong period (70's and 80's). Luckily he returned to low budget movie making and gave us Prince of Darkness and They Live. After that he was more or less finished, with a couple of highlights left (In the mouth of madness, Cigarette burns). Well, most things but I did enjoy Dexter, Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul more. "Lazenby lacked the charisma of Brosnan" Stopped reading right after this. Evita Jesus Christ Superstar eh, I don't know about the third one, maybe Phantom of the Opera. Moore turned charm to the max and he is a legend. Not as good as Craig as a ruthless killer, but they are both excellent in their own way. Connery's era was before I was born, so he has remained a little more distant to me. These are the three greats, the rest deserve no mentioning. There's no reason to define her sexuality in the original movie (I don't care about the sequels). This thread reminds me of someone saying that the only purpose of women in many American movies is just to prove that the leading man isn't gay. I guess whoever said that was right. One of the reasons Verhoeven's movie is so special is that it stays 100% on the subject and doesn't waste time on unnecessary sideplots. Hollywood draws talents globally all around the world. Verhoeven wasn't the only European director to work there. "It's a very American movie." But the social satire is very unamerican. Bless Verhoeven, this is his masterpiece and one of the best movies of the 80's. Ok, it's been years since I saw it... It should have been more bloody. If I recall correctly, there was none. They made some nice practical effects during that time. My favourite is over the top exploding of John Cassavete's character in the end of Brian De Palma's The Fury. There was a time I couldn't get enough of that scene. Patience, they'll press more of them. The demand of these titles is a good news: physical media isn't quite dead yet. I'm going to order a Scandinavian release which has a release date 4/29. I'm not in a hurry. I have waited for this release probably 20 years, so one more month doesn't bother me. "Hopefully it will have the Top Gun 2 affect." What kind of hit the first Heat was? I don't remember anymore. I only remember that I didn't bother to go to see it in theater and regretted it later on when I finally saw it. For some reason Mann's movies haven't pulled me in theater. The Last of the Mohicans I went to see primarily because a friend said it was good. Then I saw Collateral, but it was a dissappointment because I had so high expectations after Heat. "Belloq was exploiting the tribe, sure, but he was at least kind enough to pay them. Indy just straight up stole it. It turns out that they desperately needed the money for hospital treatments, as many of the tribe had fallen ill from colonizer Indy introducing diseases amongst them." I must have blinked and missed the moment in the movie that explained all this. Where did it say all this? I thought Belloq took advantage of the tribe like Jones did. "Too bad the Hovitos don't know you the way I do, Belloq" - "Too bad, you could warn them if you only spoke Hovito..." "Indy's a psycho. He's worse than a literal Nazi in this very scene." You lost me here, pal. I bet you're a neo-feminist too. Nah, I just wait for him to croak, so that I could finally have my unaltered original trilogy on blu-ray... Well, aren't you special. Maybe Indy couldn't get the job of Frank Drebin in Police Squad... Marcus Brody seemed to have faith in him. Besides he is handsome. Probably 54.
