✅ ✅ A movie released the same year with similar themes : The Believers (1987) I ain’t gonna lie, and I’m dating myself here, but watching Gabriela Sabatini on the tennis court was appointment television back in the day. And Maria Sharapova ain’t too hard to look at either. But for me, in addition to entertainment, sports are about results and excellence. Sabatini and Sharapova succeeded where an Anna Kournakova failed; the formers won Major tournaments and were elite players, while Kournakova never won a major tournament, was never considered elite and was derisively called a “tennis model.” But Miss AK used tennis to move away from the iron grip of Soviet Russia and eventually married Enrique Iglesias, so I’m sure she’s cool with all that… But you’re correct. Various reasons exist for a lack of fan interest/viewerships of women’s athletics, but debasing the spirit of competition with the scantily clad would only draw the interest of some men for so long until they find something else to perv on…. ✅ We never called it a “dutchie” , but I’ve been passed a few spliffs during a “session” and no doubt, oftentimes a participant sported dreadlocks…. ✅ The lyrics in bold are crowd additions….I did not know that until I spent time in the South…good times… Cheers… ✅ Yeah, this is the song that buys the house, the cars, the trips, the kids’ braces….the band will eat out at the finest restaurants because of this one….I’m sure ‘Fly Like an Eagle’ helps too…. ✅ This is an “after the fact” entry to the theme. Straddling the line between the mop top, Brit Pop boy band image and the upcoming counterculture, this song was thought to be a love song of sorts. It appears McCartney wrote this one after his first experiences with the grass. And that fits; even when all were alive, he was considered the biggest pothead of the Liverpool Lads…. ✅ The riffs…powerful, filthy, funky, blissfully loud, unusually catchy….Crosstown Traffic and Voodoo Child anytime ….. I had an old friend— lost contact, hope he’a still alive— who worked the road with these guys; a manager/flunky type. He said they needed the incense, especially when the hashish was passed around. Im not sure if it was the same guys, probably not all the originals, but I think they played the Whiskey just before the lockdown, ‘18 or ‘19. My friend was in his 80s, those dudes have to be close to that too…. Good times…. ✅ ✅ I catch your drift and I know you don’t follow a lot of sports, but if you like that Speedo look, you would’ve loved the NBA before Michael Jordan came along with the baggy shorts. Before His Airness, them cats were out there playin’ in biker shorts— we’re talking tight-ass short-shorts that would’ve made Daisy Duke (Catherine Bach) blush….as a guy, that shyt was nasty….so thank you MJ, you inadvertently saved some from the fate of testicular cancer… It’s totally subsidized by the NBA, which is the only reason the league has been kept afloat so long. Caitlin Clark should add an infusion of interest, but the NCAA structure, continuity and history should allow it to remain more popular than the WNBA. Add in the college NIL deals and it really looks like an uphill battle for any women’s pro league to surpass the popularity of the college game. As it is, women’s sports leagues in general are always a tough sell, for various reasons. A totally different issue, but it’d probably be better if former players and greats of the women’s game quit shytting on Clark and her “place”, her “legacy” in the annals of women’s basketball. Not a marketing major, but I’d think it could only help if those former greats criticizing and opining on Clark to stop doing such and embrace the attention and talent Clark brings to the game. No need to kiss ass and make Clark a big deal- the Iowa star has the game to back it up so far— but give props where props are deserved. The last two NCAA women’s Final Four attracted a larger TV audience than the men’s side. Lots of talented ladies , but Clark was in both final games. She’s a known quantity. And the first overall pick of the WNBA draft…. Good selections for Siouxsie…shoutouts to ‘Christine’, ‘Peek-A-Boo’, ‘Cities in Dust’ and ‘Kiss Them For Me’…. Ah man, good stuff…a few months back I started watching these first time “reactions” on YouTube , but it was mostly kids and young folks listening to classics for the first time. This was different and cool; it was interesting to see a reaction and hear an opinion for this song from a classically trained musician. She was good, though the crack on Daltrey’s vocal style was bit out of pocket, but that’s okay, just her opinion and not surprising she feels that way ….overall, good clip, thanks again NY-7… Salut….
